On Monday, April 29, Ameren is scheduled to start on what they expect to be the last phase of remediation on the former manufactured gas plant site east of Fifth and Hill Streets. The scheduled remediation consists of in-situ chemical oxidation of shallow areas near the perimeter fence and three deeper locations. There will be up to three sequential treatments, depending on treatment results. The second treatment is scheduled for mid to late June, and the third for August. Ameren mailed a fact sheet on the remediation to over 400 addresses, including residents within three blocks of the site and other interested parties.
