Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – A Neighborhood Success

The City of Champaign will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the return to two-way traffic in the Bristol Place Neighborhood.

When: Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 3:30 PM

Where: 1404 North Market Street, Champaign, IL
(corner of Market and Bellefontaine Streets)

The Bristol Place neighborhood is bounded by:

  • Market Street
  • Roper Street
  • Chestnut Street
  • Bradley Avenue

City staff from Neighborhood Services, Planning, and the Police Department partnered with neighborhood residents, in conjunction with Metanoia Centers, Inc. (a local nonprofit group), to discuss improvements to the Bristol Place Neighborhood. After numerous meetings, the Bristol Park Neighborhood Plan is in process of being developed. The traffic pattern in the neighborhood was determined as the first step needed to improve the neighborhood.

In June 1998, the City implemented a traffic plan in the neighborhood due to an increase in drug activity and to improve the effectiveness of police patrols and drug enforcement. Residents took ownership in wanting to make their neighborhood a safe place to live and developed a partnership with City staff to make positive changes.

Bristol Park Neighborhood residents and citizens are encouraged to come out and celebrate in this neighborhood success.
