Champaign City Government 101 Academy
- What does it take to run a city?
- What do all the city departments do?
- What is the Council-Manager form of government?
Learn the answer to these questions and more in the Champaign City Government 101 Academy (CCG-101)! In addition to learning about the organization and operation of the City of Champaign, the class will help boost your civic engagement capacity and encourage you to become an active participant in your local government and the community.
What Will I Learn?
The Academy consists of an opening CCG-101 Longest Table meet-and-greet for participants and department presenters. Class sessions are divided by themes: Administration, External Operations, Internal Operations, and Public Safety. Each class will introduce participants to several City departments: City Council/City Manager’s Office/Equity and Engagement Department/ Planning and Development/Public Works/Neighborhood Services (External Operations); Finance/Human Resources/Information Technologies/Legal (Internal Operations); and METCAD 9-1-1/Police/Fire (Public Safety). The Champaign Public Library will also offer exclusive, behind-the-scenes tours of the library facilities to all CCG-101 participants. After attending the Academy, participants will have a better understanding of the intricacies of operating a municipal government and what it takes to support Champaign’s high quality, essential public services.
When is the Academy?
A class schedule will be posted prior to the start of the Academy.
What is the Cost?
