Justice Victim Advocates assist individuals and families navigating the criminal justice system beginning with initial law enforcement contact. Victim advocacy is an important element in the City’s response to community violence, helping to address trauma and minimize impacts on victims and their families.

Justice Victim Advocates are responsible for the facilitation of services designed in seeking justice, coping, and healing for victims of violent crimes. Their major responsibilities include supportive and crisis counseling, making referrals to appropriate social services, and serving as a liaison between the family, Police Department and other justice services, including the courts and State’s Attorney’s Office, hospital-based social workers and community organizations.
