Champaign Police were dispatched at 3:23 p.m. on March 25, 2025, to the intersection of Neil Street and JT Coffman Drive in Champaign following reports of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers quickly located a 24-year-old Champaign man with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds and began to administer emergency medical aid until he could be transported to an area hospital for immediate treatment. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the man was inside the apartment of an acquaintance when he was involved in a confrontation with two yet-unidentified men. During the argument, a gun was fired, and the man was struck. He then fled the apartment, seeking assistance and was located outside of the apartment building by officers. The other subjects then fled the area.
Officers continue to seek witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
