The Neighborhood Programs Division has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for its role as an original participant in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in Illinois. The CDBG program helps fund community development efforts aimed at creating stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.
The Neighborhood Programs Division is dedicated to addressing neighborhood needs through a variety of programs. Each year, the City receives approximately $800,000 in CDBG funding to support the following initiatives:
- Planning and implementing neighborhood revitalization projects, including the Bristol Place redevelopment.
- Managing affordable housing programs such as the Safety Home Repair, Home Accessibility Retrofit, and Accessibility Structure Demolition programs.
- Allocating CDBG funds to support public services that support youth and people that are homeless.
- Running the Vital Home Repair program, which provides substantial home renovations for homeowners impacted by COVID-19 related financial losses.
