Champaign Police were dispatched at 6:34 a.m. on December 24, 2024, to the 500 block of Edgebrook Drive for a report of a man lying on the ground outside of a residence. On-scene, officers located an 18-year-old Champaign man and called for medical personnel to treat him for what were initially perceived to be minor injuries. As he was being assessed, multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds were located on his torso. The man was immediately transported to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the man was involved in an altercation between acquaintances inside his residence when shots were fired, and he was struck. The other party left before officers were called to the scene. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
