The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 600 block of W. Columbia Ave., Friday, December 13, 2024, at 10:36 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Firefighters responded to the report from an occupant of a fire at this multi-family apartment building. Once on the scene, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story building. All the occupants were out of the building at the time of the fire department arrival. Crews deployed multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire.
The cause of this fire is not determined as investigators remain on scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter injuries reported. One occupant was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for their injuries. One cat perished in the fire. The occupants will be displaced because of this fire.
