The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment building in the 100 block of Buena Vista Dr., Monday, November 25, at 12:56 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Firefighters responded to a report from a passerby of a fire in this four-unit apartment building. Once on the scene, crews reported moderate smoke coming from the single-story building. Firefighters deployed a single hose line into an apartment and were able to contain the fire to that unit.
The cause of this fire was accidental and has been attributed to a kitchen appliance. There were no firefighter injuries reported. The occupant of the unit was not home at the time of the fire.
Remember, when the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. If you must escape through smoke, stay low to the ground. Try to close doors behind you as you leave, to help slow the spread of smoke and fire, and help others exit.
