On November 14, 2024, Mikal Washington (Equity and Engagement Department) led a diversity, equity, and inclusion training for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 101. As part of the session, Scouts were tasked with interviewing an individual from their community, school, or scouting network who has made a significant, positive impact in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In pursuit of earning a Citizenship and Society Merit Badge, Scouts were encouraged to explore the individual’s inspiration, the challenges they faced, and the factors contributing to their success. City staff was also present to engage with the Scouts and answer their questions about what it means to foster inclusivity and how they can apply these lessons to spread equity within their communities.
