Champaign Police Investigating Death in Home Invasion

Champaign Police were dispatched at 4:09 a.m. on November 10, 2024, to the 1200 block of Harrington Drive for the report of a home invasion with gunfire. On-scene, officers located two injured men and immediately began to administer emergency aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department. One man, a resident of the home, had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition. The other subject, who was not a resident of the home, had been mortally wounded and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates that a homeowner engaged in a physical altercation with an unknown subject who had entered the home. In the struggle, the homeowner fired multiple shots. The intruder was mortally wounded, and the homeowner was injured in the discharge of the weapon.

Champaign Police remain in the area to investigate this incident, including processing physical evidence and canvassing surrounding homes for potential witnesses and video of investigative value. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
