On November 1, 2024, staff members from several City departments—including Neighborhood Services, Finance, Equity and Engagement, Police, Fire, Public Works, and Internet Technologies—came together to read to students at Booker T. Washington Elementary School. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between City employees and local youth by establishing a monthly gathering on the first Friday of each month. These gatherings will provide a platform for students to interact with and learn from the dedicated individuals who serve their community. By fostering these connections, the City aims to create a positive and inspiring environment that encourages a love of reading and promotes the development of strong relationships between young people and their community leaders.
