The City’s Communications Division recorded parts of the recent Black Mental Health and Wellness Conference held October 26, 2024, at Parkland College. One session was held by Karen Simms, Executive Director of the CU Trauma & Resilience Initiative. In her session titled “Deepening Our Understanding of Racial Trauma”, Simms discussed the pervasive effects of racial trauma across institutions and offered strategies for healing rooted in safety, trust, and empowerment. With Simms’ extensive experience in trauma-informed care, this presentation provides valuable insights for fostering resilient, inclusive communities.
