The Champaign Fire Department responded to what was dispatched as a working fire at the International Prep Academy, 1605 W. Kirby Avenue, Tuesday, October 22, at 8:22 a.m. Fire crews located a failed light fixture in the gymnasium.
Firefighters responded to multiple reports from occupants of a fire in this educational facility. Once on the scene, fire crews reported nothing showing from the outside of the building and went inside to investigate. Crews also reported the building had been safely evacuated. Firefighters were able to locate a failed light fixture in the gymnasium that had produced moderate smoke, primarily contained to the gymnasium. Once crews had confirmed there was no active fire, the incident was quickly downgraded from a working fire.
