On May 9, 2023, a Community Gun Violence Response Meeting was held at the Champaign Public Library from 6-7:30 pm. The meeting was hosted by the City of Champaign’s Equity and Engagement Department in collaboration with the CU Trauma and Resilience Initiative. Chief Tyler and division Lieutenant, Brian Maloney from the Champaign Police Department joined community members in discussing their thoughts on gun violence. Residents split into small groups to discuss their concerns as well as collaborate on possible solutions to reduce gun violence in the City of Champaign. Residents were also able to enjoy pizza and other refreshments as they shared their ideas with one another.
