National African American Parent Involvement Day

On February 13, 2023 communities across the country celebrated National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) and the City of Champaign was no exception. The focus of this day is for parents to get involved with their children’s schools to see what their children experience day-to-day and support their educational futures.

The Equity and Engagement (E&E) Department led the recruitment of volunteers with a specific focus on males from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. National, state, and local data shows limited males of color in educational environments, with a high percentage of those identifying as black and/or African American.  Diversity and racial equity have been long-standing values for Unit 4 School District, so they were looking forward to opening their doors to parents and community members of all races and backgrounds for the special day.
