On Saturday, February 11, community members from around Champaign and Urbana got together to celebrate a belated Lunar New Year! April Faulkner (E&E) got the opportunity to enjoy the festivities hosted by the New American Welcome Center. The 2023 Year of the Rabbit was celebrated with fun for the whole family and opportunities to learn about the importance of the holiday while enjoying special musical performances by local artists.
The exciting event explored how other countries like Korea, Japan, Vietnam, China, and Taiwan welcome in the New Year. The event featured musical performances on violin, piano, and classical Chinese instruments. Participants also enjoyed traditional Chinese dances, and Taiji. Participants made crafts with colored paper and enjoyed delicious Chinese food as well as desserts from Korea and Taiwan.
