The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire inside a vacant 14 unit apartment building at 1101 S. Mattis Ave., November 25, 2022, at 1:32 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire inside this multi-family apartment building.
Firefighters responded to a report from a passerby of a fire in this two-story building. Once on the scene, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from a second-floor apartment. This fire was upgraded to a second alarm early in the incident. Fire crews deployed multiple hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire primarily contained to a second-floor unit.
The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
