Community Safety and Justice Meeting

On November 21st, staff from the Community Safety and Justice Division (Equity & Engagement) hosted a community meeting at The Champaign Public Library in response to recent shooting incidents in the Champaign area. Residents were informed about the Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint resources to help address these issues and find solutions to acts of community violence. Staff met with neighborhood residents to support those who may not know what to do or where to go for assistance.

City staff worked with Champaign residents to be responsive to their needs and link families to necessary resources to reduce violence in Champaign. Also in attendance were the City’s Neighborhood Ambassadors (Neighborhood Services), Chief Tyler and CPD, and representatives from Trauma and Resilience Initiative (TRI).
