On October 22, 2022, the Planning and Development Department coordinated Halloween on Hedge x Dia de los Muertos, the final programming celebration of the season at Hedge POP! Park. Multiple departments, including Planning and Development, Public Works, Equity and Engagement, Neighborhood Services, Fire, and Police, came together to celebrate the community and all things spooky! City staff donated costumes through a costume drive in the weeks leading up to the event. Staff helped interested children select a costume, with options ranging from super heroes to princesses and everything in between. The Champaign Park District provided their bounce house for the event, which was a huge hit with the kids. There were a variety of Halloween and Día de los Muertos themed games and activities and, of course, tons of candy! In addition, community organizations attended to distribute resources and information to families as they enjoyed the event.
