Residential Fire – 508 Swigart St.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a residence at 508 Swigart St., Monday, May 16th, at 2:19 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in this single-family home.

Firefighters responded to a report from the neighbor of a fire in this two-story residence. Once on the scene, firefighters reported the occupant was outside and there was a fire in a second-floor bedroom of the home. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire contained to the bedroom.

The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. One dog was rescued from the home. The occupants of the building will be displaced because of the damage.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds everyone to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
