Shooting Investigation – 1000 Block of N McKinley Avenue

Officers from the Champaign Police Department were dispatched to the 1100 block of N McKinley Avenue at 11:30 a.m. on May 4, 2022, for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a scene spanning two blocks at the intersection of McKinley and Beardsley with multiple shell casings and at least one vehicle struck by gunfire.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two subjects were on foot on McKinley Avenue when they fired on a sedan driving west down Beardsley Avenue. The driver of the sedan exited the vehicle before being picked up by another sedan and leaving the scene. Shortly after the incident, a male subject arrived at a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the torso.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
