Keep Champaign Beautiful coordinated a cleanup along Interstate Drive on April 9, 2022, in conjunction with the Boneyard Creek Community Day cleanup event. Approximately 20 volunteers participated in the cleanup including volunteers from the Meijer store and the Ashland Park neighborhood. Public Works also assisted the effort. Approximately 50 bags of litter were collected. The contractor removed the bags of litter that were collected, and this was added to the litter that was removed from the other Boneyard Creek Community Day sites.
Reporters from WCIA and WAND provided coverage of the cleanup event. As a result of this coverage, a resident has contacted the Neighborhood Services Department to volunteer for future events. The person that farms the field reached out to the City to thank the volunteers for their work on cleaning up the field.
