On February 25, 2022, Communications Manager Jeff Hamilton (City Manager’s Office) presented to a hybrid in-person/virtual class participating in the Environmental Leadership Program sponsored by the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment at the University of Illinois. The program was developed to educate and encourage students to become more involved in the development of public policy. Mr. Hamilton’s presentation to the class was titled “Policy Development and the Council-Manager Form of Government.” During the presentation, he explained the roles and responsibilities of the City Council and the City Manager in the Council-Manager form, how public policy questions are brought forward for Council discussion, and the City of Champaign’s council meeting formats. Following the presentation, the students asked a number of insightful questions and expressed their appreciation for the information shared.
