Shooting Investigation – 400 block of Nathaniel Burch Drive

On Nov. 12, 2021, at approximately 8:57 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 400 block of Nathaniel Burch Drive for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located several rounds of spent shell casings and soon learned a 40-year-old female arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a gunshot wound to the torso. The victim was taken into surgery and has since made it out of surgery. She is alert and responsive.

The preliminary investigation indicates a group of individuals gathered in the parking lot of an apartment complex following a funeral service when a dispute occurred, leading to a large exchange of gunfire.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
