On July 23, 2021, at approximately 4:56 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 3000 Block of Edward Hoffman Drive for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a 26-year-old male suffering from a single life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the male was shot outside of a private residence. Police are currently identifying witnesses and processing the scene.
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
