Residential Fire – 710 S. State St.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire inside a home at 710 S. State St., Wednesday, July 7th, at 3:56 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire primarily contained to the kitchen of this single-family home.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a stove at this two-story home, called in by the occupants. Once on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke with fire extending from the stove. The incident was upgraded to a working fire by the incident commander. Firefighters deployed a single hose line and quickly extinguished the fire.

The cause of this fire is accidental and has been attributed to cooking. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants will be displaced as a result of the damage.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds everyone to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
