Shooting Investigation – 1800 Block of West John Street

On Dec. 29, 2020, at approximately 7:29 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1800 block of West John Street for multiple reports of shots heard. As officers arrived, METCAD advised a 19-year-old female shooting victim had arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was struck by gunfire while seated inside of a parked car. Police are currently processing the crime scene and interviewing possible witnesses. No arrests have been made at this time.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and future updates may be provided as they become available.
