Multi-Family Residential Fire – 707 S. Fourth St.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to the roof on fire at 707 S. Fourth St., Thursday, December 3, 2020, at 3:02 a.m. Ten fire crews worked to extinguish the fire that was contained to the roof of the apartment building.

Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a fire on the roof. Once on the scene, fire crews reported heavy fire on the roof of this fourteen-story apartment building and upgraded the incident to a second alarm. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and extinguished the fire found on the roof. The fire was out at 3:42 a.m.

The cause of this fire is undetermined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. The occupants of two apartments will be displaced as a result of water damage.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to practice a home escape plan. If you live in a high-rise apartment, know the locations of all available stairs in case the nearest one is blocked by fire or smoke.
