Notice of Proposed Property Tax Levy Increase for the City of Champaign, Illinois 

I. A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for the City of Champaign for 2020 will be held on December 1, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. Attendance by all City Council Members, City Manager, and City Clerk will be electronic via an online meeting platform, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/7(e) which suspends the requirement of the Illinois Open Meetings Act requiring in-person attendance by members of a public body during the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation.

The meeting will be streamed live on Champaign’s cable access channel, CGTV, and on the City’s website at www.champaignil.gov.

II. The corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for 2019 were $24,932,804. The proposed corporate and special purpose property taxes to be levied for 2020 are $27,115,500. This represents an 8.75% increase over the previous year.

III. The property taxes extended for debt service and public building commission leases for 2019 were $0. The estimated property taxes to be levied for debt service and public building commission leases for 2020 are $0. This represents a 0.00% increase over the previous year.

IV. The total property taxes extended or abated for 2019 were $24,932,804. The estimated total property taxes to be levied for 2020 are $27,115,500. This represents an 8.75% increase over the previous year.
