Homicide Investigation – 1000 Block of Bloomington Road

On August 15, 2020, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the parking lot of a local business in the 1000 block of Bloomington Road for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 22-year-old male suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim was outside of a local business when vehicles approached, and several individuals got out of their cars. An argument then ensued, resulting in gunfire and the victim being mortally wounded. As a result of the gunfire, more than 40 shell casings were discovered at the crime scene, and property damage was also identified. Vehicles were observed fleeing the area following the incident.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
