MCORE Project 4 – Temporary Intersection Closure (Wright Street and Green Street)

On Monday, March 16, 2020, the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) will begin construction on Wright Street from Green Street north to Springfield Avenue.

During the week of March 16 to March 22, 2020, the intersection of Wright Street and Green Street will be closed to all traffic to facilitate the installation of water main. The intersection is anticipated to be reopened by Monday morning, March 23. The alternate route for Green Street traffic traveling across Wright Street is to use Goodwin Avenue and Fourth Street to either Springfield Avenue or University Avenue.

Work will also begin on the east half of Wright Street between Green Street and Springfield Avenue and continue throughout the spring semester. This will result in several traffic pattern changes north of Green Street. A few key items are highlighted below; please see the traffic route exhibit for more details.

• Wright Street will be one way northbound between Green Street and Stoughton Street.
• The sidewalk along the east side of Wright Street will be closed between Green Street and Springfield Avenue.
• Pedestrian access across Wright Street to the Engineering Quad will be maintained at Healey Street.
• Healey Street will be changed to two-street traffic.

During this phase of construction, it is highly recommended that vehicles seek alternate routes when traveling through this area of campus.

The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation and patience of property owners, residents, and visitors of the Campustown area during this important project. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses. For additional information visit www.mcoreproject.com.
