Today, at approximately 11:24 a.m., Champaign Police responded to Chase Bank located at 201 West University Avenue for reports of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned a suspect entered the bank, approached the teller and verbally demanded money. The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency. No injuries have been reported to Champaign Police and there is currently no evidence a weapon was used or implied during the commission of the robbery.
Video evidence obtained during the initial investigation identified a suspect in the robbery. At 12:44 p.m. near the intersection of Neil Street and Walnut Street, Champaign Police arrested 33-year-old Travis D. Pichon as the suspect in the robbery. He was found in possession of a large sum of currency and his clothing matched video surveillance taken of the suspect during the robbery.
He will be transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center where he will await future court proceedings.
