Residential Fire – 915 W. Vine Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 915 W. Vine Street, Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 5:48 a.m.  Fire crews quickly extinguished a fire found in the wall of the living room.

Firefighters responded to a report from the occupant of smoke in the home at 915 W. Vine Street.  The occupant was alerted to the fire by the sound of the smoke alarm sounding in the home.  Once on the scene, crews found light smoke coming from the attic and eaves of the residence.  Inside, firefighters opened the wall near the fireplace and found a small fire inside. Firefighters deployed a single hose line and extinguished the fire.

The cause of this fire is accidental and was attributed to the fireplace.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
