First responders from Champaign Police, Champaign Fire, METCAD 9-1-1, and Mayor Feinen participated in the Eastern Illinois Foodbank “Jump into Action” repack event on December 2-3, 2019. Teams from local public safety departments volunteered their time and went head-to-head to compete to see who could repackage the most meals in one hour. Financial donations to support a team were also factored into the competition to boost packaged meal totals. The friendly competition resulted in a total of 60,425 meals for those in need.
The Silver Scoop was awarded to the Champaign Police Department for 12,536 meals, METCAD 9-1-1 took second place with 10,862 meals, and the Champaign Fire Department had 8,118 meals. Congratulations to everyone who participated or supported this community effort on “Giving Tuesday!”
