Four Juveniles Arrested for Centennial Fight Involvement

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at approximately 3:26 p.m. following school dismissal, Champaign Police responded to Centennial High School for a report of a large physical altercation involving several students outside of the school. Multiple staff members received minor injuries while they worked to restore order and resolve the situation.

The initial investigation has led to the arrest of two male students, ages 15 and 17, and two female students, ages 14 and 16, for the offense of Aggravated Battery and Mob Action for their involvement in the altercation. They were transported to the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.

“Tuesday’s dangerous conduct will not be tolerated and students who engage in this type of behavior should understand criminal charges may follow,” said Detective Sergeant Dennis Baltzell. “School safety will always be a priority and we will continue to actively support our schools to ensure we are helping foster an environment for learning, building relationships and allowing students to become the best version of themselves.”

The investigation remains ongoing and future updates may be provided as they become available.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
