The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 307 Foxwell Court, Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at 1:31 p.m.
Upon arrival, the first engine company reported a two-story frame home well involved and they were beginning an attack on the fire. Joined by other responding fire companies, a primary search was conducted, and it was determined no one was in the home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes.
There were two occupants in the home at the time the fire started. They were alerted to the fire by the smoke alarms that were recently installed during the 3rd Annual Christian Sheehan Smoke Alarm Blitz. The occupants indicated that when the smoke alarms went off, they were able to immediately exit the building.
There are no civilian or firefighter injuries and the cause of the fire is unknown as of this point.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
