The online registration for the next Residential Electronics Collection event for residents living in participating communities in Champaign County will open on Monday, April 8, at 8 a.m. The link to the online registration system is http://ecycle.simplybook.me/. The collection event will take place on Saturday, May 18, at Parkland College, 2400 W. Bradley Avenue in Champaign. (Residents need to use the Duncan Road entrance into Parkland College and then follow the signs.)
At this time, 18 cities and villages within the County have agreed to participate in helping to support this event. Persons residing in the following Champaign County communities are eligible to register:
Bondville, Champaign, Fisher, Gifford, Homer, Ivesdale, Ludlow, Mahomet, Ogden, Rantoul, Royal, Sadorus, Savoy, Sidney, St. Joseph, Thomasboro, Urbana, and Unincorporated Champaign County.
Residents can reserve one of the available 15-minute time slots between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. (Additional time slots will be open between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. if necessary.) Immediately upon reserving a time, a confirmation email and/or text message will be sent. The resident will also receive a postcard in the U.S. Mail five to seven days before the event which serves as their “ticket” into the event.
A list of accepted and non-accepted items can be found on the registration website. There will be a limit of four TVs per postcard (all types, models, and sizes of TVs, including CRT ‘tube’ TVs, will be accepted, working and non-working) and a total limit of seven items per postcard. Small items (cords, chargers, mice, etc.) can be bundled or put into a small box and counted as one item.
The event is co-sponsored by the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Champaign County, and the Village of Savoy. The event will happen rain or shine. Severe weather will increase wait times, but the wait is still minimal. The weather would have to be severe before the event is cancelled.
The online registration will remain open until all 15-minute time slots are full. If residents need assistance registering for the event, they can contact Nichole Millage, Environmental Sustainability Specialist, by email at email@example.com or call 217-403-4780.
