Today, at approximately 2:05 p.m., 18-year-old Khalid Purnell (pictured left) surrendered to police at the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on Feb. 23, 2019 for the charge of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm in connection to a Feb. 3, 2019 shooting in the 1200 block of West Beardsley Avenue. An 18-year-old male victim was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds as a result of the incident.
Bond on the warrant was set at $500,000.
Although an arrest has been made, police continue to investigation the incident. Anyone who may have information related to this or other shootings should contact police at 217-351-4545.
