Police Seek Assistance in Overnight N. Hickory Street Shooting Investigation

This morning, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 700 block of N. Hickory Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police learned a 25-year-old female victim had been transported to a local hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds where she remains in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim was one of several passengers in a vehicle that departed the American Legion on N. Hickory Street. As the vehicle traveled northbound on Hickory Street, a second vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire into the victim’s vehicle, striking the female victim. There are no other known injuries at this time.

Champaign Police are processing evidence from the scene and actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident. There is no suspect information available currently.
