Police Seek Information in N. Hickory Street Homicide

Last night, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 700 Block of N. Hickory Street following reports of a shooting. Arriving officers discovered a 48-year-old male suffering from a serious gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was rushed into surgery but would later succumb to his injuries.

Following a preliminary investigation, Champaign Police learned the shooting took place near the American Legion building entrance after a verbal altercation turned physical.

Champaign Police are actively working to identify the circumstances leading to the incident. Detectives are requesting to speak with anyone who may have been in the nearby area at the time of the report and will arrange to speak privately with anyone who has information regarding the shooting.
