City Announces Rate Change to MEA Program

The City of Champaign’s Municipal Electric Aggregation (MEA) Supplier, Homefield Energy, will lower its per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate. The rate reduction is caused by a change in the regulations regarding the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards. Due to the change in price, Homefield Energy must notify all eligible residents of the price change. Homefield Energy sent out letters to all customers. All customers who are enrolled will receive a fixed rate of $0.05257 per kWh for the standard 13% renewable energy plan. Eligible customers do have an option of a 100% renewable energy program at $0.05334 per kWh. Rates will be effective starting with the November meter reads through July 2018. Ameren will continue distributing the power and sending the electric bill. There will be no change to your service and no one will come to your home to do anything.

Current MEA customers do not need to take any action to remain on their current program, however, they can change which program they are on. New Ameren customers who take no action will become part of the MEA program automatically at the end of the program. Current “Real Time”, “Net Metering”, and other Retail Provider customers do not need to take any action, unless they choose to become part of the MEA program and must “Opt In”.

Letter recipients will have until October 6, 2017 to opt out of the program by 1) Returning the opt-out postcard that will be enclosed with the materials that Homefield Energy and the City mails you concerning the electric aggregation program or; 2) Call Homefield Energy toll-free at 866-694-1262 or; 3) Via email at [email protected]. More information about the program is available at www.homefieldenergy.com and http://www.champaignil.gov.
