Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) staff attended the Continuum of Care (COC) and the Council of Service Providers to the Homeless (CSPH) joint meeting this week. Lore Baker from IDHS-Office of the Secretary gave a presentation to the group on the Statewide Referral Network explaining what it is, why it matters to Champaign County and how to use the system. The Statewide Referral Network (SRN) is a network coordinated by the Governor’s Statewide Housing Coordinator for Long Term Care Reform that receives referrals of households that are disabled, homeless, or at risk of homelessness from social service providers and refers eligible households to units that have been financed by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). The COC/CSPH also discussed the issue of homeless youth/students in our community and the suggestion to partner with the Champaign County Community Coalition to conduct a community wide forum on this issue in our community. The group suggested that the Community Coalition, chairs from the COC/CSPH, and student homeless coordinators from the Urbana, Champaign and Regional Office of Education meet to discuss the issue of homeless youth/students in our community. NSD staff will coordinate the meeting between the parties.
