CommUnity Matters Spring Fling
The CommUnity Matters Spring Fling was held this year at Garden Hills Elementary School on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 5-7pm. An estimated 250 members of the community attended this free family event.
The goal of the Spring fling is to provide awareness on the health, wellness, safety, and other community resources available to families in our community. The United Garden Hills Neighborhood Association hosted a table and moved their regularly scheduled monthly meeting to coincide with this event to bring more awareness to their efforts in Garden Hills. Representatives from several City departments also participated to make this a successful event: City Manager’s Office, Fire, Neighborhood Services, Planning and Development, Police and Public Works Departments.
Over 30 vendors provided information to families regarding banking, mental health, summer camps, health and wellness, and safety in the school gym. Outdoors, children were invited to participate in the following stations: face painting, bounce house, bike rodeo and a fire truck.
Sponsors of this event include the CommUnity Matters team partners of Champaign Unit 4 Schools, the Champaign Park District, the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, Lifeline Inc, and the City of Champaign.
