MCORE Project – Projects 1-3 to be Rebid
Champaign-Urbana, Illinois –At the July 29 Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) bid letting (bid opening), the associated Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Projects had two contracts, one for Champaign and one for Urbana, on the letting. The Champaign contract included MCORE Project 2 (Green Street between Fourth Street and Neil Street) and MCORE Project 3 (White Street between Second Street and Wright Street). The Urbana contract included MCORE Project 1 (Green Street between Wright Street and Busey Avenue). At the letting, the bids that were submitted were over the engineer’s cost estimates by more than 10%. Based on those amounts, the bids were rejected. The MCORE projects will be put out again at an IDOT letting, later this fall, with construction anticipated to start in 2017.
The $42M MCORE Project, a partnership between the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD), City of Champaign, City of Urbana, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will improve access for all modes of transportation in critical campus and near-campus areas including Green Street, Armory Avenue, White Street, and Wright Street. The MCORE Project is funded in part by a $15.7M Federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Final project designs include careful consideration of feedback received from stakeholder meetings and outreach, web form submissions, and surveys from the MCORE Project Open House in May 2015.
