The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1606 Rion Drive on May 28, 2016, at 5:46 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found a small fire contained to a laboratory clean room.
Eleven (11) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-five (25) emergency response personnel responded from Champaign Fire and Presence PRO Ambulance. Fire crews entered the laboratory clean room, and found a small fire being contained by the sprinkler system. Crews utilized fire extinguishers to extinguish the remaining fire. Rion Drive was closed while crews were on scene. The fire was struck at 6:45 p.m.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. A total damage estimate is currently unavailable. The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.
