The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1802 Cypress Drive on March 26, 2016, at 4:16 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames visible from the structure. Rescue and suppression efforts began immediately.
Nineteen (19) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately forty-four (44) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments and Pro and Arrow Ambulances. Lieutenant John Hocking was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 4:56 a.m. There were no firefighter injuries reported. Two occupants were transported to the hospital. As is our policy, the Fire Department will not release medical information or the names of injured parties. The Champaign Police Department provided traffic control. A total damage estimate is currently unavailable. The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.
