The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 34 E Beardsley Ave, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 7:32 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from the residence. Suppression efforts began immediately. Crews quickly extinguished the fire.
Twelve (12) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-six (26) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire, Arrow Ambulance, and Pro Ambulance. Captain Roger Cruse was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 7:58 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. The Champaign Police Department provided traffic control. Total damage is estimated at $17,500 structure and contents. The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
