Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire – 37 Sycamore Drive

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 37 Sycamore Drive on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 2:24 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence.  Suppression efforts began immediately.  Crews quickly extinguished the fire.

Ten (10) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-four (24) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire and Pro Ambulance. Captain John Mills was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 3:26 a.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  Emergency Services Support Team (ESST) provided support for the family and the Champaign Police Department provided traffic control at the scene.  Seven (7) people were displaced as a result of the fire.

Total damage is estimated at $35,000 structure and contents.  The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
