On Saturday, October 10, the Champaign Fire Department and Fire Factor 20 will ignite students’ minds and spur them to action. Student leaders from across the campus will gather at the Illinois Fire Service Institute for this semester’s fire safety and awareness training. Students will “escape” from a smoke and fire filled dorm room and practice preventing and surviving fire emergencies. “Surviving Your Next Night Out,” an always-popular session, focuses on devastating campus and nightclub fires.
Fire personnel share the importance of understanding one’s personal limitations and responsibilities and discuss how on-scene leadership averts panic. The Fire Factor Committee, comprised of the Champaign and Urbana Fire and Neighborhood Services Departments, will also welcome members of the Central Illinois Rental Professionals to join the students as participants between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Illinois Fire Service Institute (11 Gerty Drive, Champaign).
